Ran with Kristel and Sue did 4 miles then another 3 with Kristel and we sped things up a bit! Nice run, despite my junk food weight that I was carry'n around with me! Weather a little chilly for NO, windy! But towards the end wind died down and it was nice. No dogs this morning though! I will have to take them later this evening!

Hey, welcome to this wonderful running blog!! You have a great and very determined running partner, I am sure you will both get your BQ.

So, where is that picture taken? It is amazingly beautiful. LA does not look like that, does it?

So, how did you and Kristel meet? Do you always bring your dogs running? Do they love it? What kind are they?

From Burt on Tue, Apr 07, 2009 at 22:38:25 from 98.167.151.26

I'm pretty sure the La means Louisianna and not Los Angeles (just in case you were wondering.)

From Smooth on Tue, Apr 07, 2009 at 22:54:22 from 207.200.116.67

WELCOME to the blog. LOVE your pic, those peaks are in Washington, I suppose? Boston is worth the work and training for! GOOD LUCK on reaching all your goals!!!

Ryan, you can respond to the comments right here. Because we have already left comments, we will get an email notification anytime anyone else adds a comment. There are two boxes; one for you name and the other for the Blog web address. You don't necessarily have to put in the blog web address. You can just type in your name in the name box. Since there are quite a few other Ryan's on the blog, you will have to type 'ryanshaul'. It saves some time, but I think that is how your name will show up. Some people don't like that. I'm lucky. I can just put Burt in the name box and it links to my blog. Does that make sense? In other words, if you just put your name in the name box, the computer program should be able to sort through the database of names and find you. Or you can put whatever name you want in the name box (George, for example), put your web address in the Blog web address box, and it will link to your blog.

Man, that was long. You'll get the hang of it.

From Kelli on Wed, Apr 08, 2009 at 14:13:36 from 68.76.197.194

I have the biggest crush on Burt.

On another note, you can type someone else's name in the name box and it will link to their blog. That's one of the flaws to the system I think. (This really isn't Kelli. It's still Burt. I just typed Kelli's name instead of mine.)

We ran the parking garage to get some "hills" in. Did this last week as well but today we were able to speed up our pace a little, so it was a good workout! Taken tomorrow off we are running a 10k on Sat. and want to try and run it at a 8 min/mile pace.

Does anyone have any suggestions for shin splints? I have been ice'n my legs and rub'n them down, and that is keeping things at bay, but the more miles I put in I am worried they are going to get worse! Have always had a problem and I just ice them, but if anyone has any other suggestions please let me know! Thanks

From walter on Fri, Apr 10, 2009 at 09:35:09 from 76.27.15.208

Hey you know I have a friend that gave me an article on shin splints and simply drinking more water and how it helps. There is a pill with fish oil and glucosamine called PR17 by www.surefirehealth.com I have been taking them for knee and joint issues for a year now and it seems to help. I have heard many weird ways to help with shin splints. I think running on the sidewalk is what hurts me the most. The Asphalt is a lot more forgiving. Running on a park lawn or trails helps but Im sure if you asked a doc they would just tell you to simply stop running. ;) Good luck with it.

From walter on Fri, Apr 10, 2009 at 09:47:59 from 76.27.15.208

Oh also look at the discussion board and post your questions. There will be lots of help from those going through similar injuries.

From walter on Fri, Apr 10, 2009 at 22:49:27 from 76.27.15.208

Thats fine! I hate nagging injuries, but once you get your base miles up and are more consistent, you will notice those injuries are less prone. Good luck I really love the area where you were from in Washington, I grew up in Coeur Da Lene, Idaho and now live in South Jordan Utah. Probably as big of a shock as you going south huh?

From walter on Fri, Apr 10, 2009 at 22:50:29 from 76.27.15.208

Oh by the way, when you want to respond to me just do it here on your blog and put your name where it says name. It will go automatically to my website. Good luck!

No running this week. Pulled my anterior tibialis I am pretty sure. Took off the last couple days and tried to run this morning and didn't even make it one minute. Don't want to make things worse and "run through it", I know this one isn't going away with-out some time off unfortunately! Sorry Kristel! Next week though we will get in our 50! The bike will have to do for now.

Hit the gym today, did eliptylce and bike. Leg feels much better but not quite healed enough to run. One maybe two more days and I should be good. Lifted weights with my husband and he killed me! Arms are sore! But feels great! Ready to hit the road though, getting pretty grouchy!

YUCK! Heat and humidity, i do not envy that. I hate heat!

Great miles this week! What are you trying to get up to?

Total Distance
6.00

Kristel and I ran 6 at about an 8:45 pace. Both tired, thank goodness we have eachother holding us accountable to get up in the morning! Some days it is pretty hard to do!

Total Distance
16.00

Ran 10 with Kristel, then came home and got the dogs and ran another 6 on the levee. Not going to be able to run Sat or Sun so trying to get in my miles before then.  Run felt good, got a little hard at the end, I should have eatn a banana before I left, noticed I weas getting quite tired about the last mile. But able to keep my pace at about 9 min/mile, so feel good about that. Dogs were dragging a little with the heat and humidity, but they were still quite the little troopers!

Kristel up with kids all night and tired, so I had to run on the levee with the dogs, they were excited, but I sure missed Kristel's company! Our nice talks makes the time go by so much faster! The dogs get tired, and I end up having to pull them along too! The increased humidity makes it even harder!

Got behind keeping my miles posted! This day was a great day for us! If I remember correctly we were able to keep our pace on average a 8:45 pace even in the humidity! So we were very happy! Great run!

Total Distance

Okay, a little slower this day! Kristel had been sick, it was hot and humid! But we ran and had a great run, just a little slower. Which is going to happen in the humidity I am guessing! Plus it is tough being too fast at 4am! For me that is! (:  Anyday running is a great day!

Did P90X AB ripper and 30 mins. of Yoga; Accomplished 2 pull ups!! Run felt great, if it hadn't started to get too hot I would have run another lap which would have made my total mileage 21. The humidity and heat are killer, seems to just drain any extra energy you might have!
